The Quick Start Guide to VOIP for the Home |
Who's Using VOIP?Ken David, president of CRMit.net
What service provider and plan you use?Primus Talkbroadband Unlimited Plan, $25.95/month. Why did you switch from Vonage to Primus?QoS (Quality of Service). Vonage dropped calls but more importantly call quality was consistently poor. Primus has been great since I've been using it November 2006. Why did you choose Primus over other VOIP providers?I looked at market presence/share in Canada, value, and mostly-positive user reviews. What’s your device configuration? My configuration is: Telus DSL modem > Router > switch(hub) > VOIP gateway (VOIP phone adaptor). I then plug my Panasonic handset to the VOIP gateway and my Bluetooth cordless earpiece/mic to the phone. Do you use a softphone? No. Vonage has one and it worked quite well. Primus doesn't yet offer one but they claim there is one in the works. How was Primus setup? Compared with Vonage?Same same. Complicated by my network configuration but otherwise pretty straightforward. Do you use your Primus line often?Yes. Typically 2500+ minutes per month. Do you use VOIP as an additional business line or a replacement home phone line?I use Primus mostly for business. My cell phone is my primary business line but I call forward it to the Primus line while I'm in the office. Telus, my mobile provider allows 3,000 minutes per month of call forwarding at no extra charge. What is your estimate of savings? Here's what Primus claims are the savings (chart at bottom of page): http://www.primustel.ca/en/residential/longdistance/longDistance-trulyunlimited-northamerica.htm What has the call quality been like with Primus?Very good.
