If you want to try internet phone services but don't want to make commitment to one VOIP company, then try VOIP for free.

Most free internet phones let you call other users of the same service for free. This is called free PC to PC calls. It's easy to set up. Just join the service yourself, and then invite your friends and family to do the same.

Free PC to Phone

These services let you make free calls from your computer to a landline or mobile phone.

• JaJah — Lets you make a free 3-minute call to any phone or mobile. If both you and the other person are JaJah registered users you can make a "reasonable and fair number" of free calls each week. Check their Fair Use Policy.
• VOIPBuster — Lets you make free phone calls to other VOIPBuster users AND free calls to regular landline phones in selected countries around the world. For select destinations, you can also have a regular phone number to receive calls from landline phones.
• GizmoCall — web phone that gives you 5 FREE minutes a day for unregistered users, and 10 FREE minutes for registered users. (Registration is free.) You can do all 5 or 10 minutes in one shot though. You are limited to 3-minute calls. After you use up your daily free time, you can buy additional minutes.
  *this software is still in Beta (early release) mode so you might experience a few problems. You also have to install a Flash plugin for it to work, but the install program walks you through it.
